Citizenship

Just recently a friend of mine had the amazing opportunity of becoming a US citizen. This caused me to stop and think about what being a citizen really means to me. I think many times we really take for granted what it means for us to be citizens of a country. I am grateful that I was born in the United States and that my ancestors immigrated here many years ago so that our family could have more opportunities and a better life. I am grateful for my freedom. I am grateful that living in the United States offers me many opportunities and I wish that I would have taken advantages of those sooner in my life. While I know that the US is riddled with problems and an economy that is suffering I am proud to say that I am a US citizen. I am proud of where I came from and I hope that my children and my children's children will be as proud as I am.

I think really you do not realize how blessed you truly are until you hear of someone that has worked for many years to try and gain citizenship in another country. I know it has caused me to reexamine who I am and caused me to to have a new found gratefulness. It was great to be reminded of how blessed we are as Americans. If only for a moment we could stop complaining about how bad things are and be grateful for what we do have. We are a truly blessed people to be living in such a great nation!
